La caratteristica distintiva di ViScan è la sua versatilità: combinato con RDS, permette misure in tutte le direzioni spaziali senza dover serrare nuovamente il pezzo. Sono inoltre disponibili diverse lenti.
ViScan è particolarmente adatto per la misura di pezzi caratterizzati da geometrie ridottissime o bidimensionali e/o materiali morbidi quali lamiera, gomma o plastica. È anche possibile eseguire misure complesse anche su campioni a basso contrasto quali componenti punzonati o schede a circuiti stampati utilizzando piani di misura mobili e opzionali con illuminazione a LED.

La distanza di lavoro è praticamente indipendente dalle lenti utilizzate, consentendo così la misura di caratteristiche profonde. Oltre alla misura nell'immagine, il sistema auto-focus consente anche misure perpendicolari al piano della telecamera.
